Top 7 Must-Watch App Trailers for 2010

22 November, 2010 - Blog

App Trailers, what can I say, I’m a HUGE fan. You can call it an obsession, I prefer to call it “research”. Scoping out an app’s trailer prior to download apps has become somewhat of a must for most users. You can say we’ve been conditioned by movie and video game trailers and have come to expect app trailers as part of the excitement buildup process that triggers the urge to grab an app.

Over the past year, we’ve seen app trailers grow from low-budget, low-quality hands on app demos to full scale, big budget productions. It brings us great pleasure to share with you our honor roll of must watch app trailers!

1 – The Soulmate Within
The trailer for TSMW offers a healthy dose of inspiration and intrigue.

2 – You Gotta See This! Commercial #2
This is one of the two commercials made for the iPhone4 app ‘You Gotta See This!’ Much better than part 1.

3- Alice for the iPad
They say Immitation is the sincerest form of flattery. The makers of Alice for iPad should feel extremely flattered as we’ve seen dozens of imitations for this trailer.

4 – Magic Fiddle for iPad [St. Lawrence String Quartet]
The grandaddy of awesome app trailers that brought us the Ocarina flute-like instrument app about 2 years ago, now delivers the Magic Fiddle for iPad. Pick up and play songs by following streams of colored light in the Songbook, no previous skill required. Think of it as Rock Band for Classical Music Lovers.

5 – Infinity Blade Trailer
My first reaction when seeing this trailer was, this can’t be an app, it’s probably a PC game trailer, but nope, Infinity Blade is a action-RPG adventure for iOS that utilizes the Unreal Engine for it’s incredible graphics.

6 – UFO on Tape
I had to include the trailer to UFO on Tape simply because it truly shows a hands-on trailer style done right.

7 – Fruit Ninja
Why just show the app when you can get random people to dress up as the app’s characters and have them run around like idiots?

Bonus Trailer 8 – Flipboard for iPad

There you have it, our rundown of the most honorable app trailers this year. I hope these trailers have opened up your eyes to the possibilities if you’re gearing up to launch an app. For better and worse, these are the trailers that wow’ed us and we’re sticking to them! But we’re open to your suggestions, so do drop them in the comments! :)
